Hey, cinephiles!
Today, I’m going to do a mid-depth breakdown/review of the film Warrior, directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy, and Nick Nolte. I went into this film mostly blind after seeing a thread online where people were discussing films that had trailers that they felt betrayed the film. In this case, I did see the trailer for Warrior a long time ago and remember dismissing the film as a predictable beat-em-up Rocky-style movie. I say that not to be dismissive of Rocky but simply to compare it to the multitudes of copycats and derivatives that failed to reach the impact of that film (especially since Warrior directly pays homage to Rocky). After seeing Warrior mentioned in that thread, along with words like “brilliant”, “electric”, and “heartbreaking”, I had to see if this film stood out more than what I’d been led to believe.
