“I hope that when the world comes to an end, I can breathe a sigh of relief, because there will be so much to look forward to.”
Get ready, Cinemaniacs! We’re about to embark on a trippy-ass journey with stunning visuals/cinematography paired with some bizarre storylines all wrapped into one.
That’s right! Next week we’ll be sitting down to discuss the 25th anniversary of Donnie Darko! The 2001 indie film starring Jake Gyllenhaal that was a box office flop, but not because of the reasons you might think! Thanks to DVD rentals and bootleg copies being passed around college dorm rooms, it slowly got legs and earned the Cult Classic status that it has today.
It has been many years since anyone on the Hidden Movie Club panel has seen this movie, so this will be a treat to revisit.
It is currently streaming on Hulu and Prime Video if you are subscribed, so please watch it this weekend to get ready for the live stream on Tuesday September 29th at 12PM PDT/3PM EDT! Woot!
MEMENTO on 4K Blu-ray!
Tattoo this reminder on your body somewhere: Memento is getting the 4K Blu-ray + Dolby Vision treatment, and will be released soon! Sadly, no official date has been released yet, but what we do know is this: It will be distributed by Australia’s Umbrella Entertainment with a 4K restoration in collaboration with director Christopher Nolan!
This is fantastic news, since we know we’ll not only get a 4K crispy restoration with Dolby Vision, but also a version that has to be approved by the filmmaker himself. So we are very excited to have Christopher Nolan’s first feature film finally getting the 4K treatment.
As soon as we have confirmation on an official release date, we’ll pass it along!
