“If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
Greetings! Ealan here, with another Hidden Movie Club Newsletter!
First off, I need to address the elephant in the room: In rapid succession, we lost 2 legends to the music and cinema worlds, and our hearts go out to their families and loved ones.
Whether it was dazzling us on the big screen, or through music that spoke directly to our souls (or both!), these two celebrities will be sorely missed.
I can’t say that I was always the biggest fan of either when it came to their careers, but what I can do is acknowledge the impact they made not only to music and movie lovers, but to humanity as a whole.
Dolly especially has made – and will continue to make – a lasting impression on those who were close to her, those in her home town and surrounding areas in Tennessee, and every child who received a book from her through the Imagination Library.
She could have easily been a billionaire, but chose to give away a massive portion of her wealth to good causes and to those in need. Which just goes to show you that most billionaires are billionaires because of greed.
I’m okay with those striving for “The American Dream,” where the sky is the limit. But anyone who thinks they need to hoard a billion+ dollars for themselves is truly in need of therapy.
So in this Capitalistic world of greedy corporate CEOs, let’s strive to be a Dolly, and not a Musk. I’m not religious myself anymore, but Dolly was such a fantastic role model on how to be Christian while being inclusive and understanding of everyone around her.
So let’s raise a glass to Dolly Parton and Tim Curry. 🥂 Rest in power.
“Everyone in this town knows I’ve only got one leg. And that motherf*cker grabbed the wrong one.”
As it was suggested to us from a fan of the show – and following up with another film with Chris Tucker – next week’s Double Take will be Dead Presidents!
Do Derek and I know anything about this 1995 film? Nope! And that’s why we’re over the moon! It’s one thing to know the name of a movie and never getting the chance to see it. But to have never heard of a film at all, that’s even more intriguing, to say the least. 🙌
But just looking at some still frames from this movie (like the one above), there is some wicked cool imagery at play here.
So please join us next Tuesday for HMC: Double Take at 12PM PDT/3PM EDT for the live stream!
And thank you again to those who are watching on-demand, or downloading the audio-only version on your favorite pod catcher. 🎉
QUICK UPDATE ON THE SHED!
Things are picking up with the office shed/mini home theater! Over the past couple of weeks I’ve gotten electricity hooked up by a wonderful crew (who knocked it out in a matter of hours), Phase 1 of connecting the mini split HVAC system (also done by professionals), insulation put in by me last Saturday, and drywall hung, taped and mudded by another amazing crew! 🙌
This weekend I plan on painting the interior the darkest black that Sherwin-Williams sells (which I have already purchased). After doing some research, I have selected Tricorn Black SW 6258, for those interested, along with some primer paint. Not cheap, but I don’t want to cheap out on the paint either. Luckily Sherwin-Williams was having a 35% off End of Summer sale, so that surely helped. It’s also a “flat” finish, which is a little harder to clean (if needed), but will reflect the least amount of TV or projector light for some seriously immersive movie moments. 🤘
This will definitely be a functioning office space before it is a fully-fledged mini home theater, but I am so stoke, regardless! Of course I have been documenting this whole process with video footage, so you will be able to see the progress on the YouTube channel very soon! (youtube.com/@ealanosborne)
I’m still debating if I want to save this next video release for when it is a functioning office, or release it when Phase 2 of the mini split HVAC system is up and running. We’ll see!
And for those who have no idea what I’m talking about, here is Episode 1 below 👇, if you’d like to familiarize yourself with this project. I have released 4 episodes so far, but this next episode has been a loooooooong time coming since life had other plans. Insufficient funds, family plans, summertime plans, and other things got in the way, for real! But I am thrilled to have had so much swift progress in the past couple of weeks. I can’t wait to be in there making more content for Hidden Movie Club and not have a makeshift office in our music/library/puzzle room like I’ve been doing since January! 😅
That’s it for this week, folks! Thanks again for all your support! We love watching movies and talking about them, so we’re very happy anyone else even cares about what we have to say! 😊
