The O.G. White Rabbit

“It would be so nice if something would make sense for a change.”

Hello Cinemaniacs! Ealan here with another weekly HMC newsletter!

The three of us have decided to go with an old animated classic for next week’s HMC: After the Credits, discussing none other than Alice in Wonderland from 1951! Can you believe its 75th anniversary is this year?!

Out of all the Disney animated classics, Alice is one of my favorites…at least it was some years ago when I last watched it. So many memorable characters and scenes, especially the Cheshire Cat, voiced by the lovable Sterling Holloway, who is most known for being the voice behind Winnie the Pooh, among many other Disney characters over the decades.

So please join us next Tuesday July 14th at 4PM PDT/7PM EDT for that live stream!

Stream it on Disney Plus this weekend, or watch your VHS copy that you’ve had all these years! 😁

Physical Media Update

With the passing of Gruv’s recent sale – and with the ongoing 50% off Criterion sale with Barnes & Noble, have you picked up any titles as of late? What did you end up getting? We would love to know!

I know Derek finally pulled the trigger on the gigantic Wes Anderson collection, which I’m super jealous of! But guess what?! Derek said he wants to film an unboxing video and post it on SubStack for those on the $5 pledge tier!

Speaking of, are you subscribed to the $5 tier? We’re trying to get more content for y’all who have already subscribed to that tier, as well as entice others (like you) to join as well! So fingers crossed that Derek does that, because I’m super stoked to see what’s in that Wes Anderson collection, too! Wes is such a stickler for art direction, so I bet there’s going to be some killer booklets in that collection showing color palettes and the like.

I myself have picked up a few titles over the last couple of weeks. Even though the movie itself wasn’t my favorite, would you just look at the steelbook cover of Super Mario Galaxy?! I got it mostly because I am a fan of Nintendo, and it would look great up on a wall, TBH. That and I also already own the Super Mario: The Movie steelbook, so I wanted to continue that collection. But I love how most steelbooks are so clean! No black band at the top saying that it’s 4K Ultra HD, no text on it at all, actually. Just a clean aesthetic that immediately screams Mario, if you’re already a fan. I’m such a nerdy collector, I swear. 🤓

I also picked up The Game with the Criterion sale. I had actually never seen it, but I have only heard great things about the twist at the end, and I’m continuing to collect more David Fincher films, so there! 😅

I also recently picked up Glory and The Truman Show, both on 4K Blu-ray. I’ve watched The Truman Show already and man does it look good. Definitely a great film to own, in my opinion.

And lastly, I picked up the 4K steelbook of To Kill a Mockingbird. I’m telling you, folks…old movies shot on film – if properly remastered – look stunning with a 4K upgrade, especially those in black and white. To Kill a Mockingbird is no exception, either. Just gorgeous.

And that about does it for this week, folks! Watch Alice in Wonderland, get yourself a Criterion title or two while the 50% off sale is still happening in July, and go see a movie in the theater with friends or family! It’s the best!

Be kind, everyone! See ya!
