We Miss Robin Williams…

Greetings, Cinemaniacs! Ealan comin’ atcha with a Friday newsletter! I may stick to this formula from now on, because who doesn’t like a newsletter on the last working day of the week to help you slide into the weekend?! 😎

SO…did you catch our discussion on The Birdcage yet? Yeah, it wasn’t my personal favorite, giving it 6 stars, but it definitely had some memorable moments and quotable lines. It surely came out at an interesting time. I feel as if it would do better these days, with the LGBTQ community much more widely championed.

And Happy Pride Month as well! 🏳️‍🌈

If you didn’t get a chance to catch the live stream, here it is below. Or you can listen to it during your work day or commute through your favorite pod catcher. Just search Hidden Movie Club!

Join Derek and I this Tuesday June 23rd at 12PM PDT/3PM EDT as we discuss another Robin Williams film: Good Morning, Vietnam!

Derek hasn’t seen this gem in a very long time, and wouldn’t you know it…I haven’t seen this one at all! Shocking, I know, having grown up in a very conservative household as a kid and not being allowed to watch rated R movies! 😅

And while we can’t help but enjoy every Robin Williams comedy, as I’m getting older, I absolutely enjoy Robin’s more dramatic roles more and more. I distinctly remember being so moved by his performance in Dead Poet’s Society, and of course the incredible monologue in Goodwill Hunting on a park bench sitting beside Matt Damon.

“And I’d ask you about war, you’d probably throw Shakespeare at me, right, ‘once more unto the breach dear friends.’ But you’ve never been near one. You’ve never held your best friend’s head in your lap, watch him gasp his last breath looking to you for help. I’d ask you about love, you’d probably quote me a sonnet. But you’ve never looked at a woman and been totally vulnerable.”

So I am very much looking forward to getting another taste of dramatic Robin Williams with our upcoming Double Take live stream of Good Morning, Vietnam. See you there!

For those who want to try and catch this 25th Anniversary re-release in theaters, Ocean’s Eleven – the George Clooney/Brad Pitt/Steven Soderbergh remake of the classic Rat Pack film from 1960 – will be showing at various theaters on June 21st and 24th. Or perhaps a little different at your theater, so it’s best to double check. 😊

I own this one on good ol’ DVD, since I loved it when it first came out. The ensemble cast meshed so well, brilliantly reigned in by Soderbergh’s direction. Not to mention the slick soundtrack!

So check your local listings, head out to the theater this upcoming week, and get lost for a couple of hours with strangers in a dark theater. You’ll thank me later! 😉
