“You see, I take these glasses off, she looks like a regular person, doesn’t she? Put ‘em back on…formaldehyde-face!”
Oh boy, Cinemaniacs! Ealan here with another HMC newsletter!
Derek pulled this one out of a nostalgic bag and we said “yes!” This week we will be discussing the 80s John Carpenter classic They Live, starring none other than the “rowdy” wrestler himself, Roddy Piper, along with a strapping young Keith David.
I had never seen this before, and I don’t know if I will ever watch it again, TBH. 😂 But I’ll just leave it at that and save the gushy details for the live stream.
So please join us, watch it on demand, or download the audio-only podcast version as we break down our experience watching They Live today at 4PM PDT/7PM EDT.
“I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I’d rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!”
And for those who want to get ahead on next week’s homework – and to sit back and watch possibly one of John Carpenter’s greatest horror films – Derek and I will be discussing The Thing for our upcoming Double Take episode.
I actually own this one on 4K Blu-ray, but it’s been awhile since I’ve seen it all the way through, much less watched it through a more analytical lens. But with it being one of the 80s most memorable movies in general – and not just a fantastic John Carpenter flick – I’m stoked!
So set your calendars for Tuesday May 12th at 12PM PDT/3PM EDT for our live stream discussing The Thing.

If you haven’t gotten around to it, this is another chance to do it! So I’ll just ask again to watch a favorite movie with commentary on to get something a little extra this go-round, yeah? 😎 It might be something you never knew you were into! Might as well try it out, Cinemaniacs!
And there you have it for this week! Physical media for life! 🤘
