Hello, Cinemaniacs! Ealan back with another HMC newsletter!
Join us today at 4PM PDT/7PM EDT for our take on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze!
I think this discussion is going to be fairly polarizing because it was clearly meant for kids our age back in the 90s, and not necessarily for 40 year old dudes post 2020. đ
So Iâm excited to see what Brad and Derek have to say as well. Things might get a little awkward, folks! But thatâs entertainment, baby!
So bring your questions for todayâs live stream, because I bet weâll get some interesting interaction on this one. Canât wait!
âFist my bump.â
Quick Project Hail Mary Review
So my family and I saw Project Hail Mary on Sunday. Even Grandma and Grandpa joined us! And I gotta say, it was a fairly accurate adaptation of the book.
I hadnât read the book with my eyeballs, but I did listen to the audiobook, and Ray Porter the narrator did an excellent job!
But it is a fantastic companion piece to the new film as well. I wouldnât try and focus on âIs the film better than the book?â or visa versa. I would view the whole ordeal as a means to consume two different interpretations of the same incredible story! So isnât that even cooler? If youâre a big fan, having two versions you can revisit to your heartâs content is better than one, right?! đ
Ryan Gosling should be nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Dr. Ryland Grace, no kidding. He brought the charm and humor when he needed to, but didnât hold back when the emotional moments were necessary. Hoooo-boy, it definitely made me cry a couple times.
We unfortunately donât live close to an IMAX screen or Dolby Cinema, etc, so itâs always a little disappointing when a film of this magnitude gets released, since I wonât be able to experience it in such a large format.
But even then, the story is compelling, and every component came together beautifully – acting performances, set design, script, improv, the musical score, the directing – firing on all cylinders. A story about humanity and friendship, and the sacrifices we make for those we love. This film has it all.
So I encourage you all to go see it if you havenât yet, especially if you live close to an IMAX screen or other premium presentation. Itâs totally worth it.
Hope to see you at the live stream today! Donât just watch movies, experience them – preferably with friends during a large format screening of Project Hail Mary! âĽď¸
